KPMG Hopes Government Will Start GST At Lower Rate
 

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 6 (Bernama) -- KPMG Malaysia hopes the government will start goods and services tax (GST) at a lower rate of 3.0 to 5.0 percent for the initial stage to favour the lower income group, said senior tax partner, Khoo Chin Guan.

  GDP To Grow At 5.5 Pct In 2006, 2005 GDP Revised To 5 Pct

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 30 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian economy is projected to expand by 5.5 percent in 2006, from the five percent growth expected in 2005, says the Treasury.

 
 

 
 
HIGHER GOVT SPENDING FOR GROWTH:
RM136.8 bln allocated for 2006 Budget, up 5 pct.
Of this, RM101.3 bln is for operating expenditure and RM35.5 bln for development expenditure.
Economy to expand at 5.5 pct in 2006 from 5.0 pct estimated this year.
Construction sector to turn around at 3.0 pct in 2006 from -1.1 pct this year.
Budget deficit to be further reduced to 3.5 pct in 2006 (2005: 3.8 pct estimated).
